Cleaning hacks can be addictive and one woman has shared one that had gone unknownst even to some clean freaks.

It can be easy to forget to clean the equipment and appliances that keep your house in order.

A member of a cleaning Facebook group shared something she’d totally overlooked about her washing machine.

Her machine’s drawer was caked in grime and she hadn’t realized the item could be removed.

The woman took to social media to share her discovery, plus before and after pictures, Edinburgh Live reported.

She wrote: “How on earth did I not know this draw came out?! I’m not officially an adult and love cleaning haha! Thank you everyone for your cleaning tips and tricks.”

Before long, the post had attracted almost 100 likes and more than 110 comments from fellow cleaning enthusiasts — many of whom were also unaware of the trick.

One said: “I didn’t know that either!”

A second shared: “They say you learn something everyday….. Well today I learned this thank you.”

“Like new – well done,” a third praised.

A fourth posted: “I brought a secondhand washing machine and had it for 3 years (no idea how long they had it) before I pulled the drawer out and it was thick with black mold I had never seen anything like it couldn’t believe I was washing my clothes in that filth. Pull mine out once a month now.”

Other users recommended tips to help clean the compartment.

One suggested: “Just apply science, pour some boiling water into the detergent drawer, it flushes all that stuff away and set machine to wash, happy days”.

“This grime drives me mad – I clean mine each week now – 6 adults in our house so washing machine takes a bashing. I also soak the drawer in hot soapy water overnight – comes up a treat,” replied a second.

“Yes they come out on every washing machine you just normally press the back bit where conditioner goes,” stated a third.

A fourth revealed: “I take mine out after every wash. Clean it and the inside of the machine where it slots into. Then I leave it to air and put it back in on my next wash.”

“Doesn’t anyone read the manuals anymore,” another joked.
